We celebrated Liam's birthday this week by eating Whataburgers. One of his young friends suggested that and we all felt it was appropriate. During Liam's stay in Fort Worth (and transplant at Cook's Hospital) a friend (a former Whataburger employee) read and passed along a Caring Bridge post about his appetite for their burgers. The corporate office sent a box of goodies including coupons. And that's when we learned that Liam's maternal grandfather had worked at Whataburger many years ago.
Many of the kindnesses we've received have involved food. One family made sure that we had a home cooked Thanksgiving meal in 2010. For an extended period after Liam returned to Abilene from St Jude's Hospital, a host of folks brought meals to the house. How do you truly thank folks for that kind of blessing?
Today marks the 1st anniversary of Liam's "graduation." It's a day that we've been dreading. But I'm hopeful that the anticipation will prove worse than the actual experience.
