The Center for Contemporary Arts coordinates a special event on the 2nd Thursday of every month called Artwalk. Artwalk is free and fun. Some of the local businesses even extend their hours to cater to foot traffic.
The focus changes each month. I've seen some really nice cars on display. I think we even had a visit from a Martian ambassador one month.
During the summer months it can be uncomfortably warm. But at this time of year it should be really nice. Have you walked through "downtown" Abilene lately? I love Minter Park. It is so refreshing to be able to just sit -- watching and listening to the water run down that shady wall.
They are expecting a gypsy invasion at tonight's Artwalk. The Paramount theater will be showing a documentary. Minter Park will be the scene for belly dancing. Coloring opportunities will be available for the kids. There are always some vendors perched on the sidewalks. And Monks will be handy for a shot of caffeine.
