School Board elections

It is now election time in Texas. This week we'll be electing school board members. I'd like to offer some thoughts on the job AND the sort of folks we need in those positions.
I served on a school board once. I finished out my term (3 years) and it was a learning experience. I learned that I didn't want to do that again. There's probably a reason they talk about "serving" a term on the school board.
I don't have any candidates to recommend. I don't even know the folks running locally. That's probably a "shame on me" because I haven't cared enough to meet those people. But since a blog is a place for airing opinions, here are a few of mine:

One candidate says he plans to use this as a stepping stone to bigger office. Deliver me from that sort of thinking. Is it possible to move "up" to more impressive positions? Around here that's obvious. I love the movie, "Dave." In that show, the good guy starts his political career by running for local office. But his goal is to do good.
School board service is meaningful. It is the position that more people have been elected to than any other. It is grass-roots. It is an opportunity to make a difference.
I served good people and I served with good people. But not all of the people are all that good. Each of us has an agenda. Most of us won't be privy to a candidate's real agenda. So, my next opinion is that we should be praying for our schools: our students, teachers, administrators and board members.
What about prayer in schools? I agree with the fella who said that as long as there are tests, there will be prayer in schools.

It's the little things

Recently I learned a little trick involving browsers. It really is a little thing but it can help by making things bigger.
Consider the text in this photo. It is showing at 100% size. That's too small for me. If it was on a tablet or smartphone I'd be able to expand it. But how do you make things BIGGER in a browser?
Turns out there are a couple of ways to do it.
1. You can hold down the "Ctrl" key (obviously I'm using a Windows machine) while moving the scroll button on the mouse. Using this approach you can scroll forward to increase the image size or backwards to decrease it.
2. The other way is use the slider (or drop down option) at the bottom right of the screen to change the image size.
Here's the same image at 165%. Much better.

I am also "the favorite uncle Gary"
    because
I always told the nieces and nephews that I was. Worked great until one of them realized I was their only uncle Gary.
